A Connecticut native, John grew up in New Haven County raised by parents Peter & Mindy alongside two younger sisters, Deanna & Elizabeth. Growing up John excelled in multiple sports including hockey, baseball and basketball and had a passion for music and the outdoors.
In high School John’s passions quickly shifted to hockey and teaching. John served as an on-ice assistant youth hockey coach and volunteer helper throughout his tenure as a varsity high school hockey player at Pomperaug High School.
After high school John continued his education at Sacred Heart University in their Education department. While completing his student teaching at Bassick High School and Winthrop Middle School he continued his involvement in youth hockey, working full time as the Director of Danbury Ice arena during his senior year at Sacred Heart.
After Graduating John returned home to Southbury to continue his coaching career.
A staple in Fairfield County’s hockey community for over a decade, John’s coaching journey spans throughout the high school and youth hockey landscape, including a successful term as Head Coach of the Wilton High School boys’ varsity team, and accomplished tenures as the Director of hockey for Sono Ice House, Ridgefield Winter Garden, the Danbury Ice Arena and currently serves as the Director of Hockey Operations for Stamford Twin Rinks.
John is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach with over a decade of experience transforming young athletes into skilled, confident hockey players both on and off the ice. Specializing in skating, skill development, and player mentorship, John delivers personalized coaching that unlocks every player’s potential, from Mites to Prep School and beyond.
Throughout his time in leadership roles John has always stayed connected with the grass roots of the hockey community through coaching Youth Teams, and is perhaps most revered for his widespread contributions to the Fairfield County Youth Hockey Community.
As an educator, John’s coaching philosophy centers on building skills, character, and work ethic. He believes every player can grow through tailored guidance. Off the ice, John enjoys off-trail adventuring and boating with his trusty black lab, Boogie, or serving in his role as
Uncle John” for his nieces, Scarlett and Aria. John brings the same passion and commitment to his community as he does to coaching.
